Privacy Policy
Local Haunts, operated by Legendarily Imperfect, LLC. Effective and last updated 10 September 2026.
The Short Version
We do not sell your data, we do not show ads, and we do not build a profile of you to rent to anyone. Vouches and crowns are shown as anonymous counts and never attributed to you in public. Your location is used to run a search and is not kept as a history of where you have been.
1. What We Collect
What You Give Us
- Account — your email address and a password.
- Your Caché — the places you save and the lists you put them in.
- Vouches and crowns — which places you endorsed, and which place you named best in a category. These are stored against your account so you can change them, and published only as counts.
- Preferences — search radius, cuisine filters, sort, and whether you have allowed diagnostics.
What The App Collects By Itself
- Location — used to search for restaurants near you. Searches are cached by roughly one-kilometer map cells shared across everyone using the app, not against your account, so the cache cannot be read back as a trail. Location is requested only while you are using the app; there is no background location.
- Places you open — recorded to work out what is trending. The record is severed from you if you delete your account.
- Device and app version, for compatibility and troubleshooting.
- Activity and error logs, only if you leave diagnostics on in Settings. These record what the app did, such as a search running or a place being opened, saved or vouched for, and they carry your account id while you are signed in. It is a switch you can turn off, and it is off until you turn it on.
- A push notification token, if you turn on reminders. It identifies this device to the notification service so an alert can reach it, it is held against your account, and turning the switch off deletes it.
- Purchase status — free, Pro, lifetime, or Founder. Handled by RevenueCat; we never see a card number.
2. What We Use It For
- Finding independent restaurants near you and ranking them.
- Keeping your Caché on every device you sign in on.
- Counting vouches and crowns.
- Working out which places are being looked at, in aggregate.
- Processing purchases and knowing what you are entitled to.
- Fixing crashes.
We do not use it for advertising or profiling, and we do not sell it. Money never buys ranking influence in Local Haunts. Paying does not move a place up anyone's list, and no business can buy a position.
3. Third Parties
Google Places
Every restaurant, photo, rating and set of opening hours in the app comes from the Google Places API. Searching sends coordinates and filters to Google. Place information is © Google. Google privacy policy.
Supabase
Authentication and the database. Rows are protected with row-level security so only your account can read your own. Supabase privacy policy.
RevenueCat
Purchases and entitlements. It receives your app user id and the receipt from Apple or Google. RevenueCat privacy policy.
Sentry
Crash reporting, and only when diagnostics are on. Sentry privacy policy.
Expo / EAS
Builds, over-the-air updates, and push notification delivery. A push token is passed to Expo's push service, which hands the notification to Apple or Google to deliver. Expo privacy policy.
4. Storage And Security
- Your data is stored in the United States, in Oregon, whichever country you use the app from. It is protected there by this policy and by our agreements with our providers, and it may be accessible to US authorities under US law.
- Data is held in a Supabase Postgres database with row-level security.
- Passwords are hashed and never stored as text.
- Everything moves over HTTPS.
- We store no card or payment details. Apple, Google and RevenueCat handle all of that.
5. How Long We Keep It
As long as your account exists. Delete the account and the row goes, taking your Caché, lists, vouches and crowns with it. That cannot be undone. Aggregate counts other people can see do not identify you and are not reversible back to you.
6. Your Rights
- See it — everything we hold is visible in the app.
- Delete it — Settings → Delete account, inside the app, with no email to anyone required.
- Turn off diagnostics — Settings → Privacy, at any time.
- Turn off location — in your device settings. The app still works; it just cannot search around you.
Local law may give you further rights, and we act on all of them wherever you live. That includes Canada (PIPEDA), Australia (the Privacy Act and the Australian Privacy Principles), New Zealand (the Privacy Act 2020), Singapore (the PDPA), Hong Kong (the PDPO), California (the CCPA), and the EEA and UK (the GDPR and UK GDPR). Write to us at the address below and we will act on them. We do not ask which country you are in before honoring a request.
7. Children
Local Haunts is intended for people aged 13 and over, and we do not knowingly collect anything from a child under 13. If you believe a child has created an account, write to us and we will remove it.
8. Changes
If this policy changes materially we will say so in the app. The date at the top is the last revision.
